20th Century Kirby Muxloe
The 20th century brings momentus events, in the shape of two World Wars.
We now start to record recollections, including some of the night the bombs dropped on Kirby.
A list of Parish-related documents that are held in the County Record Office can also be found in our Records section.
A census transcription for 1901 is available.
We are researching the shops and businesses that were in Kirby in the 20th century.
In 2018, we commemorated the end of WW1, a century earlier, and remembered those who lost their lives in all wars. Some photographs of the Remembrance Service are here.
In 2022, the Parish Council refurbished our War Memorial Gates and Memorial Stone. These were rededicated by the Bishop of Loughborough. The Remembrance Day Service, two days later, was followed by the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the gift of the Recreation Grounds to the village of Kirby by Mr. Henry Swain Bennett. There are some photographs of these events here
